What termite treatment should I use and how much does termite treatment cost?

It’s extremely important to select the right type of Termite Treatment or Control for your home. The age or construction type of your home will determine what treatment for termites is best suited for you. The two most common methods of termite treatment or control are Termite Management Systems and Termite Bait Systems. We discuss these in further detail below.

Pricing will vary, depending on a number of different factors, such as the construction type of the property, severity of the infestation, and, of course, the required treatment type. For a basic overview of costs, see the information below. For a more detailed explanation of pricing, please call us. We’re very happy to chat with you regarding suitable options for any termite issue you may have.

Termite treatment options

Ace Termite and Pest Solutions offer termite treatments Caloundra and termite inspections Caloundra

OPTION 1: THE QUICK FIX

This treats the area of live termites only. These treatments can be done by either a spray treatment, foaming treatment or dusting treatment. Let’s say there’s a customer who has termites in her window frame in the lounge room – treatments for a quick fix would cost between $330.00 and $660.00. In this cost, the customer would get the affected areas only treated using dust, foam or spray/inject.

Option 2 is a termite treatment provided by Ace Termite and Pest Solutions

OPTION 2: TERMITE TREATMENT

Termite damaged areas in the window frame and wall cavity would have small piercings put into the affected areas and the application of product applied directly into the termite workings.

It’s essential that a non-repellent chemical is used, as these products are slow acting and will allow the product to be transferred from termites back to the nest. The cost of non-repellent chemicals is much greater than repellent chemicals as these repellent chemicals only kill termites on contact.

If a customer receives a termite treatment to the cost of $220, it will be expected that a repellent chemical will be used. This will not be effective and is not recommended.

Option 3, a termite barrier, is one of many solutions offered by Ace Termite and Pest Solutions

OPTION 3: TERMITE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

Termite Management Systems are used to protect the home against termites for up to eight years. A Termite Management System involves trenching around the perimeter of the home and drilling small holes through external paths and slabs to form a completely treated zone around the home.

A Termite Management System is a continuous liquid treated zone installed in the soil around the perimeter of your home. Termites will then have to travel through the treated zone before entering the house. We use Termidor in all Termite Management Systems. Termidor is undetectable to termites so termites will pick up a lethal dose of Termidor if they pass through it. It will begin to affect the termites within 8-21 days, allowing the product to spread back to the nest and affect the other termites. Termites and the colony will then be eliminated before they can gain access to your home.

The cost of a Termite Management System will vary, but is usually between $2,000 and $3,500 for a small to large home. This cost will usually include an option 1 treatment if termites are in the home. The chemicals used are also non-repellents designed to kill the termite nest by transferring product back to the nest.

The termite treatment cost for a Termite Management System will usually be $500 cheaper if a repellent chemical is used. This is not recommended as it won’t transfer back to the nest.

A Termite Management System will provide long-term termite protection as long as it is installed properly with absolutely no short cuts.

The success of a Termite Management System is reliant on the installation procedure. It’s important to have the trenches dug 100 mm below the footing and chemical applied at 10 L per lineal metre.

  • Flow meters must be used to ensure 10 litres is installed per metre.
  • Drill holes must be no more than 200 mm apart in concrete paths
  • Tree roots against wall edges under soil must be removed
  • Certificate of treatment must be installed to certify all works have been done in accordance with Australian Standards.

If your home is on a flat slab and a reasonably flat block, chances are your home will be best suited to a Termite Management System.

Option 4 (termite bait system) for termite treatment from Ace Termite and Pest Solutions

OPTION 4: TERMITE BAIT SYSTEMS

Termite Bait Systems are also designed to eliminate termites before they enter your home and are great for termite protection. They usually cost between $2,500 to $3,500 for a small to large home. Pest companies can cut costs on these by servicing the baits less often, however these bait systems should be serviced and baited every four weeks on a 12-month program. Some homes suit a Termite Bait System over a Termite Barrier.

The baits are placed around your home, usually every three metres. The active termites then feed on this bait which is a combination of paper, cardboard and other termite food sources, together with a slow acting substance which is lethal to termites. The substance is also spread back to the nest and colony enabling the termite nest to be eliminated before it can attack the house.

If your home is on a sloping block, has a split-level slab or is a pole home, it’s most likely that it’s suited to a Termite Bait System.

The Pros and Cons of Termite Management Systems versus Termite Bait Systems

Termite Management Systems, once done with a non-repellent chemical such as Termidor, will protect your home for five to eight years. The only cost is a yearly termite inspection to ensure there are no conducive conditions that will weaken the treatment zone. A Termite Management System usually costs between $2,000 – $3,500.

Termite Bait Systems will cost between $2,500 – $3,500 and include servicing, monitoring and baiting for 12 months only. Each year thereafter, the service fee is usually $800 – $900 to maintain the baits. Over time, this method can end up costing a home owner triple the cost of a Termite Management System.

Termite control with a Sentricon System – a revolutionary new method for controlling termites

The Sentricon Termite Colony Elimination System has revolutionised termite protection and become an instant success with homeowners. In fact, homeowners ask for it three times more than any other termite treatment. It’s considered the leading brand in termite protection, providing proven colony elimination – leaving no more colonies, and no more problems.

  • Ace Termite & Pest Solutions can install and monitor the Sentricon System exterior stations without even entering your home.
  • No drilling in floors or foundations is required and it can be installed with limited disturbances to landscaping.
  • Sentricon eliminates “toxic” liquid chemical treatments that require digging a trench and treating the soil around and under homes with hundreds of litres of diluted chemicals.

Only select companies have been qualified, trained and authorised to market and service this unique system. To qualify, Ace Termite & Pest Solutions must meet and maintain strict standards set by Dow AgroSciences:

  • Highest-quality service
  • Extensive training in termite biology and behaviour
  • Ongoing technical and service instruction in the use of the Sentricon System
  • State-of-the-art data gathering and management tools

What about cheap termite treatments?

A cheap termite treatment will usually be done using an inferior and less costly termite treatment chemical that is a repellent type. These chemicals will repel termites away from the treated zone but will not affect the colony. Cheap repellent chemicals are not recommended if you require safe, long lasting termite control.
